Restorative Yoga & Body Mind Ballwork Workshop

  • Katherine Low Settelment 108 Battersea High St, London SW11 3HP (map)

A fun and playful somatic practice to explore embodied self awareness, release tension and invite a feeling of spaciousness and calm in your life.

As we move into Autumn, different demands are placed on our bodies, the temperature drops, we feel a little creakier, new aches and pains appear. Using a combination of restorative yoga movements and ball work, this workshop invites you to explore moving with ease, releasing tension and relieving chronic pain, creating a sense of spaciousness and calm in your body and mind.

We will explore embodied self awareness with ball work inviting curiosity and playfulness in our practice: what is happening in my body, my breath and my mind as we feel and massage the muscles and fascia with pressure from rubber balls in varying sizes and textures. As the balls work on the fascia and muscles, they enhance circulation and energy flow and enliven your body and mind. The movements are simple and easy, less is often more and the results are profound and for some life changing.

There is a lot of focus these days on strength training and cardio work but we also need body awareness to determine what is safe and effective for us. We need to maintain elasticity, minimise pain and movement restrictions not through force but with mindful movement and awareness.

Come and join us for a playful embodied practice to nurture and nourish your mind and body.
Sophie has been practicing and teaching yoga for over 20 years and is deeply grateful for the inspirational work of Tias Little at Prajna Yoga and Ellen Ellen Saltonstall’s Body Mind Ballwork Method exploring somatic movement and how to release fascial tension, opening up new pathways, nourish and heal the body.

About Sophie Coats

There are many definitions of yoga. For me my practice is about the return to the centre, the centre of my being, a journey of awareness both mental, physical and emotional. It is a practice that combines the physical (asana) with the movement of the breath (pranayama) and meditation. This practice has transformed my life.

I first came across yoga in India in 1988 when I studied Hatha Yoga with Ambu in Pondicherry, Tamil Nadu. Over the years I have studied with many inspirational teachers and explored different systems of yoga. I have been greatly influenced by the heart opening practice of Anusara yoga, the precision of Iyengar, the connection between breath and movement in Astanga Vinyasa Yoga and the deeply restorative benefits of SATYA Yoga and the Body Mind Ballwork method.
